Homework Alert: Science Design Process Project!

**This project was first assigned on February 16th. Students have had ample class time to complete their rough draft and ask questions.

Final projects are due Wednesday, March 3rd.

Please see the details below, first posted on the blog on February 17th.

It's time for another design process!

This time it's about... TIME!

Students must reflect on why we want or need to measure time.

Then, they must choose one ancient instrument used to measure time and:
-research its origin
-create a labeled drawing
-write a description of the instrument: what it looks like and how it works
-give the advantages and the disadvantages of the instrument
-imagine possible modifications to make the instrument modern

For some of these components, students have researched the answers. For other components, students should formulate and invent their own answers.

The pages students have been working on (pictured below) are the rough copy of this project.

Students should create a final project, including all of their information. This final project could take any number of forms: a poster, a book, a diorama, etc...

**They do not have to construct a working model of the instrument.**

The final projects of this Design Process are due
 Wednesday, March 3.

Best Book Ever Winner!

After reading opinions about both books from a variety of sources, listening to each other's final thoughts and hearing a passage of each book read aloud, students voted for the last time.

With a vote of 11 - 10, Ghost Boys has been declared the winner of 6-1's Best Book Ever!

Speechtastic!

 It's time for another Speechtastic!

This time, students are preparing a Book Talk Speech. Students have each chosen a book and are planning a 2-5 minute speech to explain to the audience why they should read their book. Students should be sure to have an introduction, a middle (with a short retell of the book as well as a few reasons why someone should read their book) and a conclusion.

Students are reminded to add their personality and really make the speech their own!

Presentations are Monday, March 8th and Tuesday, March 9th.
